The wind is up

We often have bad weather at this time of year and the advice "don't travel unless it's necessary" is always best adhered to! However, for the emergency services across the UK some 'everyday' journeys are still necessary, Police officers need to get to work, District Nurses need to complete their rounds, Fire crews need to be on duty, @CoastGuardTeam and @thelifeboatcrew need to get to their Lego® boats. You can always check your local weather, including weather warnings at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk before setting off.

    CALL OUT: Missing walker

CALL OUT: The team were called to reports of a missing walker. The walker had left a route plan and schedule with her husband, who had notified the police when his wife had not returned home on time.

The team were tasked to the last known location of the walker, where she'd left her car. Having worked up a search plan, the team deployed three hill units to search the most likely routes. This included a few 'common' areas where people often take the wrong path or turning.

It wasn't too long before one of the hill sections radioed back to base to say they were investigating a possible sighting not to far from the walker's planned route. The section made their way across a snowy ridge to find the walker who had become navigationally challenged due to the snow. She had tried to reach the top of a ridge in the hope of identifying more features, but had slipped and fallen in the snow injuring her arm and was beginning to get quite cold. The team splinted the ladies arm, wrapped her in a large warm casualty bag (like a furry sleeping bag) and evacuated her by stretcher back to a road head where they handed over care to the Lego® Ambulance Service.

The team made it back to base just before sunset and a cup of hot chocolate.

      All present and correct

The team are still catching up on their blog, now that Christmas has passed its time to post a quick photo about the Christmas Presents. We managed to get a photo of Graeme with his presents, he'd already got a bike and a skateboard but was really hoping his last present was a Canoe so that he could join the Water Section.
Graeme was more than ready to open his last present.

        Winter Wonderland

As snow covered the country Mountain Rescue teams have been ready to support the Police and Ambulance services in accessing remote and difficult locations. Many teams have attended callouts to stranded motorists, or walkers lost in the white out. The team are very proud of their bigger counterparts and have been doing some patrolling of their own...

          Another Post

The team have all been very good and written thank you letters for the gifts they received this Christmas. Christmas is a very busy time of year for the Mountain Rescue Volunteers as they juggle priorities of family and friends with being on call. Peter even remembered to send a letter to Father Christmas thanking him for the presents, fortunately Sarah was on hand to grab this snap. (Peter doesn't like having his photo taken)

            The ADVENTures continue

It has been a busy time of year for the team with several callouts and preparations for Christmas. Now its time to catch up on our blog! Remember, like the real Mountain Rescue Teams we remain on call and ready to help those in need Three Hundred and Sixty Five days of the year. Our first Christmas memory is from opening the advent calendar, when Robin was very pleased to find a new team member waiting behind the door of day 16.

The boys were very happy with Day 16's surprise!

Well it had to be done really. Trick or Treat?

If you're feeling in a Treat mood you could sponsor a Mountain Rescue Team.
